Lions Club Easter egg hunt adds to busy spring

The Lions Club Easter egg hunt was held last Saturday at Reiman Park, with plenty of children on hand to enjoy the hunt, followed by playtime on the playground (more interesting to some of the kids than searching for plastic eggs). Three different age groups hunted down the candy-filled plastic eggs while also searching for the golden egg hidden in each section of the park for the three age groups. The golden eggs were then exchanged for baskets filled with toys and candy for the three lucky winners.

The youngest winner was Mason Lewis, son of Jennifer (Smith) and Tim Lewis. The second age group winner was Robbie Peterson, son of Bryce and Rochelle Peterson, and the third winner was Katie Mae Sheldon, daughter of Jim and Julie Williams. All of this year’s winners are residents of Odessa or its rural farms.

Yet to come this spring

The town is now gearing up for several special events, including Spring Fling on April 28-30, the annual Odessa Healthcare Foundation’s fundraising event May 5, Memorial Day on May 29, high school graduation on June 10 and the high school reunion on June 17 (for which The Record will once again publish a special keepsake edition highlighting the newest inductees into the athletic hall of fame).

Spring Fling is only two weeks away, and folks are looking forward to attending the garage/yard sales, quilt show, car/bike show, horseshoes tournament and all the other events that are planned. There will be plenty to do to keep visitors entertained.

Through the generosity of Nate Lathrop of Rolling Thunder Pizza and the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, The Record has included an ad on page 8 listing all of the events of which we are currently aware. If we have missed anything, we would appreciate being notified so that the schedule we publish next week will be as complete and thorough as possible.

By next week we should also have finalized figures for the recent race weekends near Odessa, as well as updates on who is doing what in preparation for Deutschesfest 2017.

And here is more food for thought. What would you think about an online-only version of The Odessa Record? As most of you know, the paper has not actually made money in a long time. We don’t see our subscriptions ever increasing by much, and expenses continue to outstrip revenues. People who no longer live in Odessa often tell us they enjoy the history column most of all. We don’t always have room for it, when the advertising will support only a six-page paper. Fortunately, we don’t have that problem this week and the history is included. Keep giving us your feedback.
