Quilt of Valor awarded to Johnson

Shirley Johnson of Odessa was the recipient of a Quilt of Valor from Johnnie Rogers of the Quilt of Valor Foundation in Moses Lake.

Shirley Johnson of Odessa was awarded a "Quilt of Valor" by the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is "to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor."

Johnnie Rogers, Shirley Johnson and Emma Cloud display the red, white and blue quilt last Saturday in Reiman Park.

Johnnie Rogers of the Quilts of Valor Foundation organization in Moses Lake brought the quilt to Odessa and made the award to Johnson at Reiman Park.

Johnson spent 22 years as a member of the U.S. Navy during the period that encompassed Desert Storm and Desert Shield. She served as a Navy corpsman aboard the USS Shenandoah, with postings to Italy, Spain, Greece and Israel.

She is now a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Disabled Veterans of America.
