The Tiger boys basketball team defeated their nemesis the Almira-Coulee-Hartline Warriors this past Saturday in Deer Park to clinch the championship in the district tournament. It was a thoroughly exciting game and kept fans from both schools on the edge of their seats to the very end. A tip-in following a failed field goal resulted in the ball falling through the basket as the buzzer sounded.
Junior standout Ryan Moffet was held to just 21 points, as ACH double-teamed him all through the game. Fellow junior Marcus King added 16 points.
As a team, the Tigers pulled down 30 rebounds to ACH's 26, had 11 assists to the Warriors' 9 and 6 steals to only one for ACH. Each team was credited with 9 turnovers. So Statistically, the teams were very well matched, giving only a slight edge to Odessa, also reflected in the overall season match-ups that resulted in two wins for the Tigers and one for the Warriors.
The scores in those match-ups also reflect how evenly matched the two teams are, with Odessa winning its two games by one and two points, respectively and ACH getting its win by three points.

As the quarterly scoring shows, both teams were tiring by the fourth quarter. As the minutes counted down, the ball was in Odessa's hands with the score tied at 51-51. Most everyone in the audience was expecting an overtime period to be played. Moffet had the ball and allowed the clock to run down to only seconds left in the game before taking his shot. It wasn't quite centered, but hit the rim and bounced up into the air. Then there was mad scramble for the rebound, which only succeeded in all those reaching hands sending the ball into the air once again. On the final try for the rebound, the ball went up once more and into the basket, giving the Tigers the win at the buzzer.
