INCIDENT LOG

Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, May 6: A caller reported seeing someone steal a vehicle and head from Reardan to Davenport on U.S. 2. A responding deputy recovered it after it became disabled near Alexander and Krupke roads.

Dispatchers were advised that vehicles attempting to bypass the U.S. 2 construction near Reardan were being driven fast on Alexander and Plaster roads.


Responding to the 500 block of Armstrong Avenue in Wilbur, deputies were asked to check on the welfare of a man in his late 30s who had been drinking heavily and is known to have “mental conditions.”

A 78-year-old man suffering from “general weakness” was transported from a residence on Zagelow Road East to the Odessa Memorial Hospital.

Three horses were observed loose on Hume Road northwest of Davenport.

Tuesday, May 7: A collision involving a vehicle and deer took place on U.S. 2 about four miles west of Almira.


Checking out a trespassing allegation, a deputy advised a couple who own property adjacent to Porcupine Bay Road that a fence they had installed to keep horses behind had encroached on a neighboring property and would have to be removed. The horse owners are building a new fence and received their neighbor’s permission to keep the existing fence in place until that project was completed.

A Reardan man advised his Toyota pickup truck had been stolen from the 300 block of North Lake Street.

Responding to the 1400 block of Morgan Street, Davenport ambulance transported an 89-year-old man said he did not feel good to Lincoln Hospital.

The driver of an eastbound semi-truck was able to pull over near the intersection of U.S. 2 and SR 28 in Davenport after its engine caught fire. Unhurt, he used fire extinguishers from neighboring businesses to douse the blaze, so local firefighters weren’t needed.

A caller reported a lot of smoke in the canyon area west of SR 231 north of Reardan.

Responding to the 200 block of West Main Avenue in Wilbur, Creston ambulance personnel assisted a 79-year-old woman with “severe chest congestion and cough.”

Deputies checked out a report from Wilbur that a man was waving a knife while walking in the vicinity of Sandy’s Family Foods.

A vehicle given to an Odessa man to be scrapped was reported stolen and subsequently involved in a collision in Grant County. Its original owner told deputies he had received a towing and impound bill for the vehicle.

Reardan EMTs responded to a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 2 in Spokane County.

A caller told dispatchers he found what may be drug paraphernalia near a dumpster at the Davenport Sports Complex.

A Porcupine Bay Road resident advised that, without his permission, someone opened a Lowes credit card account in his name.

Wednesday, May 8: After recovering a Toyota pickup truck that had been reported stolen from North Lake Street in Reardan on Tuesday, deputies determined their suspect was a 14-year-old Reardan boy who also is believed to have taken another vehicle from the 300 block of Columbia Avenue earlier in the week and involved in a vehicle prowling incident in April at Lincoln Hospital in Davenport. The boy was placed into custody and transported to the Martin Hall juvenile detention facility in Medical Lake.

Responding to the 300 block of East 1st Street, Sprague ambulance personnel assisted a 23-year-old woman suffering multiple seizures.

A caller expressed concern about local students in vehicles traveling at high speeds on Division Street in Wilbur and requested a law enforcement presence in the area.

A mud flap reportedly fell from a Spokane Rock Products truck and hit a Davenport woman’s vehicle on U.S. 2 near Davenport. A responding deputy determined what fell was actually a metal sign and that damage had occurred to the woman’s vehicle.

Responding to the 300 block of Marshall Street, Davenport ambulance personnel transported an 84-year-old man with breathing problems to a Spokane hospital.

A woman who was staying at a RV park in Wilbur reached down to pet her neighbor’s small dog, which bit her finger and caused it to bleed.

Odessa ambulance personnel assisted a 75-year-old woman who had fallen and remained on the floor for a period of time at a residence adjacent to SR 21N.

Thursday, May 9: A caller asked a deputy to tell the person who mows the lawn at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport not to do so before 7 a.m. because of the city noise ordinance.

Responding to the 300 block of West 4th Street in Sprague, deputies checked out a report of a possibly suicidal individual.

Two vehicles were involved in a collision in the construction area on U.S. 2 near Waukon Road east of Reardan.

Responding to a residence on Sprague Lake Resort Road North, deputies dealt with a 16-year-old boy who reportedly had been hitting his mother. The deputies determined the incident was verbal.

Vehicles were observed speeding in the vicinity of McInnis Road and Sixth Street in Davenport.

Dispatchers were advised that people are accelerating their vehicles while leaving the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Davenport to see the reading from a radar unit placed there. Tire marks were left on the U.S. 2 road surface as a result of the acceleration.

A Harrington woman requested assistance with an unwanted individual at a residence in the 200 block of West Adams Street.

A semi-truck with two trailers hauling steel beams reportedly struck a pole in the 300 block of South Colfax Street in Sprague.

A resident of the 300 block of Marshall Street in Davenport reported teenagers rang his doorbell and ran away.

Friday, May 10: A Sprague woman’s report of strange sounds inside a residence in the 500 block of West 4th Street was confirmed by a responding deputy who heard what he described as “weird rumbling noises.” He left the premises without being able to find the source.

Ten female goats were observed traveling together from a farm adjacent to Waukon Road and heading toward their former home, another farm on Cloverdale Road in the Edwall area.

A 65-year-old man who “could barely walk” was transported by Reardan EMTs and Davenport ambulance personnel from a residence in the 100 block of East Railroad Avenue in Reardan to Lincoln Hospital in Davenport.

Responding to the 300 block of SW Creston Avenue in Creston, deputies handled a report of a 35-year-old woman who threw a laptop computer into a wall while arguing with her boyfriend. About $200 damage occurred to the laptop.

A caller told dispatchers she had received several scam IRS calls telling her to call a criminal attorney over matters involving her Social Security number.

After taking a report of an elderly woman’s vehicle swerving on U.S. 2 near Davenport, a responding deputy discovered she was having diabetic issues.

A woman was placed in custody after deputies responded to a report that her mother and father were being assaulted at a residence adjacent to SR 23 in the Sprague area.

A caller expressed concern about loud music playing at 9 p.m. at a residence on Lakeview Court in Seven Bays.

Deputies stopped a vehicle on U.S. 2 just east of Davenport after receiving a report that a couple inside was involved in a physical domestic disturbance.

Saturday, May 11: Deputies responded to a report that a man spit in his girlfriend’s face while “screaming at each other” inside a residence on Park Avenue in Seven Bays.

Reardan firefighters responded to property adjacent to SR 231N where a controlled burn went out of control and into a haystack.

Responding to a caller’s report, a deputy caught up with a vehicle that had been “spinning brodies” and driven at speeds of at least 60 miles per hour in the vicinity of the Creston School.

A 49-year-old Odessa man who apparently suffered a broken leg but was “screaming in pain” while uncooperative with local ambulance personnel was transported by LifeFlight aerial ambulance to a Spokane hospital.

Deputies attempted to locate a man observed screaming incoherently on his phone while walking along Spokane Street in Reardan.

A National Park Service ranger reported he barely escaped a collision with another vehicle while driving on Porcupine Bay Road. A deputy stopped the suspect vehicle, a gold pickup truck, on SR 25 about 10 miles north of Davenport.

Emergency personnel assisted a 14-year-old Reardan girl after she suffered a severe allergic reaction in the 500 block of East Spokane Avenue.

Returning from a walk, a Davenport woman discovered someone had started her car and left it locked and running while parked in the 1300 block of Logan Street.

A malfunctioning railroad crossing was reported in the 1300 block of Twelfth Street in Davenport.

Sunday, May 12: Deputies investigated an incident of possible animal cruelty involving three dogs locked in a cage on property adjacent to Sunrise Lane East near Davenport.

A collision involving a vehicle and deer was reported at the intersection of SRs 174 and 21 near Wilbur. The car sustained minor damage, but the deer didn’t survive.

JAIL BOOKINGS

May 8: Jessi Kayla M. Schlecht, 26, Ford, arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) for failing to appear for driving while license suspended.

May 10: Kayla Ada M. Harding, 29, Sprague, arrested by LCSO for fourth-degree assault.

May 11: Nicholas Richard Holmes, 26, Spokane and/or Grand Coulee, arrested by LCSO for driving under the influence.

May 12: Mathew Patrick J. Morgan, 23, Loon Lake, arrested by LCSO for failing to appear for driving under the influence and while license suspended.

Additionally, three individuals were held in the Lincoln County Jail under contract with the Washington State Department of Corrections; another was detained under contract with the City of Airway Heights.
