Tigers hammer Pomeroy in season opener on 9/6

The state champion Odessa Tigers football team has picked up right where it left off last season with a big win over Pomeroy, 76-8. The game was played in Pomeroy last Friday, September 6.

Odessa 38 32 6 0 76

Pomeroy 0 0 0 8 8

The first half was the usual all-out push by the Tigers to build up an insurmountable lead. The second half saw much more play by the freshmen and sophomore members of the team. Since last year’s championship squad lost only two players to graduation, the bulk of the team this year is experienced and ready to prove themselves again.

Senior running back Joshua Clark had a fabulous game with five touchdowns rushing and another TD on a pass reception from quarterback Camden Weber. Clark led the team with 137 yards on offense. With his six TDs and one 2-point conversion, he led the Tiger scoring with 38 points.

Fellow senior Marcus King was right behind Clark with 119 offensive yards, plus another 87 yards in punt returns. King’s three TDs and two 2-point conversions put 22 more points on the scoreboard.

Junior Jett Nelson and sophomore Daeton Deife also had one rushing TD each.

Defensively, junior defensive back Keith Strebeck led the team in tackles with four solo tackles and six assists, plus 2.5 sacks of the opposing QB.

Senior Brady Walter had one interception.
