Leo and Viola Lobe are announcing their grand opening of the Odessa Drive-In for Friday, July 3. The Lobes are well known in the community, having lived here for many years. Recently they’ve been employed at Pronto Foods while living at Moses Lake, however they’ve moved back to Odessa. Renovation of the building and equipment has been underway in recent weeks with fresh paint both inside and out by the Lobes and A.J. Webers, building owners. The doors were again opened to the public late last week. The Drive-In had been closed for a period of two months during which time the equipment had been sold at Sheriff’s sale by the bank.

Girls spend hot week at scout day camp; learn foreign customs. Around 40 local Girl Scouts and 25 leaders and helpers spent the hottest hours of last week at the annual Girl Scout Day up the creek in King’s meadow. We have it on good report that the temperature under those trees on the hottest day hit 116, although the hottest reported in town was a cool 101.

Richard and Rita Voise have retired and sold their business, Voise Sausage, after 35 years to John and Mary Stein of Fruitland, long-time customers. For 21 years, beginning in 1972, the Voises had supplied the sausage sold in the Biergarten during Deutschesfest. That year they provided 300 pounds of sausage, which eventually grew to a peak of 1,800 pounds. The Voise family made the sausage at their farm under a partnership that included Richard and Rita and their children Lori, Alan and Roger until 1990. That year, the operation was moved into town, where the accommodations were much more modern. But when the children branched off in different directions, Richard and Rita began to contemplate selling.

The Goetz family reunion held in the Odessa Community Center, the first in 30 years, was attended by 180 people.
