McKeehen receives Summit Award

DAVENPORT – Marlee McKeehen, 20, of Davenport, WA recently received the highest award in a BSA Venturing Crew, the Summit Award. Venturing is a program of the Boy Scouts of America for males and females ages 14 to 21 that emphasizes adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service. Davenport's Venturing Crew 764 began on March 1, 2015. McKeehen is a founding member.

On the chilly afternoon of Dec. 27, 2020, Crew 764 members and their families parked their cars facing each other in McKeehen's snowy driveway for a socially-distanced Summit Award Court of Honor.

As they tried to stay warm in their cars, Crew Advisor Trish Walker stood outside and went over some of McKeehen's accomplishments while all listened in via audio on Zoom.

Just like an Eagle Service Project that benefits the community, McKeehen's project helped the Davenport VFW & the community by adding 70 flagpole holes to the Mountain View Cemetery here to honor our eterans.

For this project, McKeehen led 13 volunteers in over 75 service hours. Walker informed everyone that McKeehen is only the 2nd person in the BSA Inland Northwest Council to acheive the rank of Summit and the 10th in all of Washington State. This joyous event was also bittersweet because it was the last activity for Venturing Crew 764. The entire Crew is extremely grateful for the consistent community support.

McKeehen is currently a sophomore at WSU doing online classes at home. She recently changed her degree from Veterinary Medicine to Statistics. When asked about her favorite Scouting activity with the Crew she stated, "California because I was able to share my love of Disneyland with the Crew."

McKeehen wants to give special thanks to everyone involved in the Crew and those who supported the Crew over the last five years.
