Harrington holds 9th Annual Car Show May 15

HARRINGTON – One woman honoring her father's dream brought literally hundreds of people to Harrington on Saturday, May 15, for the 9th Annual Car Show. Naturally, Jill Barth did have assistance to pull off this fete. Her father's dream continues. This year there were 153 registered cars with more than 200 cars in attendance. Many of these were first-timers registering for the event.

"This was our first year hosting vendors onsite and our first year with a food truck. Everything was amazing, including the weather! I think this will continue to grow every year," Barth said. Harrington's Third Street was a sight to behold with so many beautiful and colorful cars, pickups, trucks and tractors backed in to the curb. Normally, Third Street would be closed with a detour protecting the crowds of people, but that did not occur this year. Fortunately, there was no incident when a truckload of cattle came up the street. The late Allen Barth said in 2016, "There is a need to increase the number of activities, events and vendors in town during each of these shows to increase the appeal for a diversified audience."

Rummage sale

The Harrington Opera House rummage sale Friday and Saturday was a huge success with many in attendance and a great spirit of donation. Volunteers were kept busy refilling the tables as large areas were cleared, and boxes of rummage were available to dig through. Many diverse items were on the move, including 1960s clothing patterns, modern head-phone set in box, vintage puzzles, glass cat figurines, swimming pool and even a Pillsbury "Dough Boy" mascot. Preparations are advancing for another sale in June.
