Budget issues dominate special meeting

ODESSA – The Board of Directors of Odessa School District #105 met in the library and the meeting was available via ZOOM on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 6 p.m. for a special board meeting. Present were board chair Ed Deife; board members Janie Steward, Heather Valverde, Chris Crossley and Carmen Weishaar; Superintendent Dan Read; Principal Jamie Nelson; Assistant Business Manager Staci Claassen; Operations Supervisor Justin Parr and Athletic Director Bruce Todd.

The board approved the recommendation of the athletic director to hire Jonathan Hayashi, Jr. as the junior-high assistant girls basketball coach.

Superintendent Read shared a presentation outlining budget highlights of the recently completed legislative session.

Read shared his thoughts and sought input from the board regarding the use of ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) Round II funding for the 2021-2022 school year. Discussion will continue at the May 26 school board meeting and during the ongoing 2021-2022 school year budgeting process.

Initial job postings for the 2021-2022 school year were shared and discussed.

Superintendent Read requested the school board amend his three-year contract to one-year for the purpose of his retirement with an ending work date of June 30, 2022.
