Suspects in Reardan theft arrested

GRAND COULEE—Two men suspected of stealing items from Richard Kramer’s Reardan home were arrested Oct. 20 by the Reardan Police Department, Grand Coulee Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Jesus Alberto Castaneda, 27 of Elmer City was arrested on charges of third-degree conspiracy to commit theft, third-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree theft and third-degree driving with a license suspended or revoked, while Timothy Ronald Wilging, 52 of Grand Coulee was arrested on charges of third-degree conspiracy to commit theft and third-degree theft, according to records.

According to police records, Kramer filed a report with the Reardan Police Department on Oct. 6 after two chainsaws and two five-gallon gas cans were stolen off his front porch on the 100 block of North Laurel Street.

Video captured by security cameras placed on the porch showed one man taking the items and getting into a gray Izuzu Rodeo driven by a second man in the incident, which occurred Sept. 28, according to records.

The footage was sent to the Grand Coulee Police Department, where officers identified Wilging as the driver of the Rodeo. Wilging claimed he lent the car to Castaneda when police discovered a gas can in the back of the car when contacting him, according to records.

Wilging also claimed to be with Castaneda on the day of the theft and that the latter had stolen the chainsaws, but said he didn’t know the chainsaws were stolen until he got back into the vehicle, according to records.

Both men were arrested at their residences after the Reardan Police Department was granted a search warrant approved by Lincoln County Superior Court Judge Jeff Barkdull, records state. Both remained in Lincoln County Jail as of press time.
