6th Street Cafe and Pizza closes its doors

DAVENPORT—The city’s newest restaurant is closing its doors after just six months in business. 6th Street Café and Pizza announced it would be closing its doors “for the time being” in a Facebook post Monday, Dec. 27.

The restaurant, owned by Ian Riley and Jessica Friedland of Davenport, made its grand opening June 25 after buying the building on Sixth and Morgan Streets in early 2020. 6th Street Café initially served pizza, coffee, breakfast items and drinks, but consistently added to its menu as the months went by. In late November, pancakes, eggs and sausage were added, while the restaurant moved to open seven days a week in October.

6th Street was especially busy during Pioneer Days in July, when locals and visitors alike stopped by for pizza and drinks during the vendor and parade activities.

Shortly after Pioneer Days, the restaurant closed for several weeks due to a COVID-19 outbreak amongst its staff before re-opening Aug. 17.

Monday’s post on the restaurant’s Facebook page insinuated that a re-opening is possible in June 2022.

“We may potentially re-open during the summer months (June-September) and will post more information on Facebook and Instagram in the coming months,” the post read. “We have thoroughly enjoyed serving our community over the past year. We will miss seeing our amazing employees, the new friends we have made and those loyal customers who supported us.”

Riley and Friedland declined to comment to The Times regarding the restaurant's closure.
