Odessa Alumni Association holds annual banquet

ODESSA – The High School Alumni Association held their 86th annual banquet on June 18.

The alumni banquet was canceled the previous two years due to the pandemic.

The Class of 2012 hosted the event. Each year the class that is having their 10-year reunion hosts.

The banquet was held at the community center in Odessa and was proudly decorated with black and orange.

Composite photos of each honored class were displayed in frames, each identified with their respective year of graduation.

A social hour took place for attendees to interact and reminisce before dinner was served. Odessa Golf & RV provided refreshments for the banquet and manned the bar.

Kolby Crossley (class of 2012) welcomed the alumni and guests, thanking attendees, classmates, volunteers, coaches and the community for helping with the banquet.

The Odessa High School FBLA chapter prepared and served the dinner, which was followed by dessert.

After dinner, Charli Moffet King presented a roll call for the class representatives and recognized the honored classes of 2022, 2012, 1997, 1982, 1972 and 1962.

Officers of the Odessa Athletics Hall of Fame committee, including chair Larry Weber, vice-chair Jon Heimbigner and secretary Travis Schuh, presented awards to the 2022 inductees.

Individuals receiving plaques upon their induction were athletes Tom Evavold, Anne Evavold Haase, Steve Evavold, Terrie Weishaar and tennis coach Sharron Ray Cox.

Jesse Evavold accepted for his father, the late Jim Evavold, Tom Ray accepted for his father Coach Jerry Ray (unable to attend due to illness) and Hailey Williams accepted for her friend/classmate and golf champion Kira Powell (class of 2012) who was out of the country.

The late Terry Connolly, who was a huge contributor to the Odessa and Harrington communities, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Her daughters Jill Connolly and Katie Connolly Douglas, along with Terry's sister Janie Steward, accepted her award at the high school gym prior to the banquet. Connolly was nominated by Larry Weber for her service as treasurer of the Odessa Athletic Booster Club and efforts to sponsor and promote high school sports.

Door prizes were awarded to the oldest alum in attendance, George Rodeck, who graduated in 1948, and to Anne Evavold Haase, who traveled the longest distance to attend from her home in Georgia. Haase graduated in 1967.
