DAVENPORT-New redistricting documents discussed at the school board's meeting Wednesday, July 27 will attract more candidates to fill District 1's vacant seat, the district hopes.

The position, which was vacated after Heather Panke resigned at the end of 2021, has yet to be filled.

The school district has three positional spots and two at-large positions. District 2 is filled by chair Deanna Fitzpatrick, District 3 is filled by Tami Odenrider and Garrett Husky and Janie Schreck occupy the at-large positions.

The new district boundaries were indicated in the redistricting process. District 1 covers all district land east of Highway 25 and east of Buck Flats Road. It also extends west of Highway 25 slightly north of Highway 2, with the northern border at that point being Sinclair Street and western border being Third Street.

South of Highway 2, District 1 runs as far west as Third Street until Main Street, where it extends further west to 12th Street. District 1 with this boundary has a southern border of Fitness Lane.

District 2's boundary begins west of Third Street and Highway 2. South of Highway 2, it runs to Sixth Street on the west and Maxwell Street to the south.

North of Highway 2, District 2 is more complicated. It begins at Third Street and runs to Seventh Street for blocks north of Highway 2 and south of Sinclair Street. It begins west of Highway 25 for land north of Sinclair Street and runs north to the district boundary.

District 2 runs west to Seventh Street and curves north to cover land east of Wheatland Road before taking a triangular motion to move west of Gunning Road and north of Cottonwood Creek Road. It then covers district land west of Rambo Road north of Highway 2.

District 3 covers all district land south of Mt. View Cemetery Road as far east as Buck Flats Road. It also covers land south of Highway 2 west of 12th Street and extends east to Sixth Street in land north of Main Street.

North of Highway 2, District 3 runs east from Rambo Road to Seventh Street but gives way to District 2 at Cottonwood Creek Road and Wheatland Road to the north.

Davenport isn't the only local district taking steps to fill a vacant board position. The Reardan-Edwall School District, which contains only at-large seats, is looking to fill an empty spot after the passing of Roger Peterson in June.
