Reardan holds off Asotin for second straight win

ASOTIN-For the second time this season, a safety was the difference in a Reardan league victory. This time, the safety came in the second quarter and marked the two-point margin in the Screaming Eagles' 23-21 victory against the Asotin Panthers Friday, Oct. 7.

It was Reardan's second straight road victory after a nonleague dub over Priest River a week prior.

Asotin got on the board first when Gavin Ells picked off a Rysen Soliday pass intended for Tate Nelson and ran it back for a touchdown.

Jaquin Stroble, who scored three touchdowns against Priest River, helped Reardan tie it up on the first play of the second quarter, a one-yard touchdown run.

Reardan forced a punt on Asotin's next drive and picked up the all-important safety on the play.

Stroble struck again in the third quarter, extending Reardan's lead to 16-7 with a 22-yard touchdown run. And for the second straight week, he found himself in the endzone a third time in the fourth quarter with a 5-yard run.

Between Stroble's second and third touchdown runs, Cody Ells had a nine-yard score for the Panthers. He added an 82-yard run in the fourth quarter to draw Asotin within two points, but the Panthers couldn't draw any closer.

Reardan outgained Asotin 242-149 on the ground. Aidan Chilson rushed for 105 yards, while Stroble had 78 yards to go with his three scores. Ells had 107 yards and two touchdowns for Asotin.

Jakari Singleton led Reardan in receiving with 67 yards on four receptions.

Reardan improved to 2-3 in NE2B play and 3-3 overall with the victory, while Asotin fell to 0-5 in league and 1-5 overall.

The schedule gets considerably tougher for Reardan now. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague comes to town Friday night, and the possibly-playoff bound Broncos will look to continue a four-game winning streak. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. from Joe B. Johnson Field.
