New councilmember prospects to be interviewed

HARRINGTON—The process for electing a new council member was discussed at a City Council meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

David Buddrius asked what process could make it fairer rather than appointing a member.

Council collectively agreed to hold the interviews at the next council meeting to hear qualifications and get to know the prospects more efficiently.

The interviews start before the regular meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m.

The discussion comes after Peter Davenport resigned in late December due to health concerns.

The city is still looking for a new clerk as former clerk Jere Lee resigned in December.

TD&H Engineer Steven Marsh requested a change order of $60,000 for continued repairs on the main water line. The waterline is almost finished and ready to be tied in.

"We should have an update by Friday the 20th," Marsh said. "If all goes well, we will shut off the water and tie in the new water line."

Marsh said weather could be a deciding factor in how much longer clean-up can take. He said moving dirt when it's rainy, snowy and sludgy becomes challenging.

Library Board President Denisa Holling gave a brief update on the new computer program for the library.

"The training should be complete by mid-March," Holling said.
