Loren L. Horst

Loren was born on June 9, 1929 in Irby, Wash. to Jakie and Rhyle (Swent) Horst and went to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the age of 85.

Loren attended Odessa High School and graduated from Colville High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army from February 1951 to January 1953, during the Korean War, then served five years in the Army Reserve. He then returned home to work on a farm. He married Darlene J. Kagele on March 16, 1954 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Loren and Darlene recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Loren started working for Odessa Trading Company at Wheeler as a part-timer and ended up the manager with CHS Harvest States Cenex, working for the company for 37 years. Loren was raised on a farm and was a farmer at heart all his life. With his farm background, Loren loved working with his farm customers. Even after retirement, Loren remained faithful to his employer and his customers.

Loren and Darlene were members of the Sandy Sams RV Club and also served on the state staff for Good Sams for 10 years as coordinators for donations for the Ronald McDonald Houses. Loren enjoyed fishing in Alaska with his buddies, and did this many years. Loren was also an avid Seahawks fan and attended many games over the years with family and friends. He was very blessed to get to see his beloved Seahawks win their first Super Bowl. After retirement, Loren and Darlene traveled many places in their motor home and spent 13 years, from January through March, in Yuma, Ariz.

Loren is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Darlene, children Michael (Michaelle) Horst, Lori (Peter) Owens and Kathy "Frogg" (Dave) McMains; grandchildren Robert (Katrina) Horst, Jennifer Foster, Derek McMains, Kevin McMains, Aaron (Alicia) Klingemann, Shelly (B.J.) Moos, Nicole (Rich) Micus; great-grandchildren Wyatt Horst, Cambria Frost, Kelsie Klingemann, Maite Betes, Stella Betes, Jordan Moos and Jackson Micus; sisters Reta Walters and Jackie Pifer; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Jakie and Rhyle Horst, sister Donna Siepiela, brother (Warren) James Horst and daughter-in-law Kathy Horst.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1020 A Street, Moses Lake, Wash., with Pastor Walter Klockers officiating. Burial will precede the memorial services in Pioneer Memorial Gardens, Moses Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
