Quilt show awards announced

More complete information is now available from the Odessa Quilt Club on activities surrounding the Spring Fling annual quilt show that took place April 24-25. As The Record reported last week, the Mayor's Award went to local quilter Patricia Gies for her work entitled Dreamy Hexagons.

Based on voting by visitors to the quilt show, the Favorite Large Quilt was entitled Basket Weaver and was made by Judy Main of Mattawa. The Favorite Wall Quilt was made by Ann Sanders of Spokane. The Favorite Lap Quilt was created by Kathy Conway and was called Cabin Fever Friends. The Favorite Embroidered Quilt, made by Sherry Thompson of Spokane was entitled Hocus Pocusville. The Favorite Antique Quilt was supplied by Kathie Donahue of Odessa and was of a Double Wedding Ring design.

The Best Pieced Quilt award went to Jeanne Fischer of Ellensburg for Celebration.

Hop to It by Roberta Schroeder of Deer Park was voted the Best Applique Quilt. Another quilt called Hop to It by Ginger Patano of Spokane was voted the Best Hand-Quilted Project.

The award for the Best Machine-Quilted Quilt went to Shelly Sierverkropp of Wilbur and was called I (Love) the Half Square Triangle II.

The Best First Quilt award went to Kim Todd of Odessa and was called Baby Elegance.

Chairmen's Awards went to Juli Weishaar of Odessa for Grandpa's Ties and to Jeanne Fischer of Ellensburg for 50 Shades of Red, White and Black.

The award for Most Improved Quilter went to the husband and wife team of Trisha and Dan Nelson of Odessa for Log Cabin.

The Sweetest Quilt award went to LaDawna Whitaker of Odessa for Irish Chain.

The quilt receiving the most votes during the Quilt Walk competition in which visitors went to downtown businesses to view locally made quilts on display was Christmas Sampler, made by Patricia Gies and Lise Ott.

Of those who completed the downtown Quilt Walk and put their entries into the drawing, Laura Ortega of Soap Lake was the winner of the cash prize offered by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.
