Ron Frederick died July 8, 2014 at his home in Odessa at the age of 78. Ron was born May 30, 1936 in Odessa to Louis and Alma (Giese) Frederick. He attended school in Odessa until tenth grade, joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and had his 18th birthday in Korea during the Korean War. Beginning in 2010, as part of the goal to provide health education for our community, the Odessa Healthcare Foundation has sponsored a Babysitting Basics class for youth, ages 10–18, interested in improving their skills as babysitters. Nearly 700 Avista Utilities customers in the town of Odessa will experience a power outage on Wednesday, July 23, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 24. The outage is required to create a safe environment for crews to work while upgrading the substation that serves the town. Additional Avista crews will also be working during the planned outage on upgrading equipment on utility poles throughout the town. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry Starkel and her sister Joyce Oberg.
