Monday, Jan. 27: Three dogs, possibly Siberian huskies, attacked and killed four sheep on property adjacent to Bull Run Road East in the Reardan area. Jacob DeWulf is the son of Mark and Peggy DeWulf and a senior at Odessa High School and plays on the Titans high school boys basketball team. Coach Schuh chose DeWulf as athlete of the week because he has been a force defensively leading the team in rebounds and blocked shots. Colton Hunt, son of Stacey Hunt and Amy Hunt, is in the eighth grade in Odessa and plays junior high boys basketball. To the Editor: We are writing with the hope that we can shed some light on what we feel is a disservice to the children of Odessa Elementary School. Some classes had “Seahawks Parties” last week, in preparation for the Super Bowl. We have a child in school who is not a Seahawks fan and is being forced to partake in the creation of Seahawks pictures and attend class “Hawk rallies.” This child has been segregated by the other children due to not being a Seahawks fan, and the teacher has allowed this to take place. Mark Turner is the Observing Program Leader (OPL) at the National Weather Service in Spokane. His main focus is to service what is known as the Cooperative Observer Program (COOP). He makes sure that COOP observers have the equipment and training needed to accurately report the weather at a specific location. The Odessa School Board met January 22, initially in a workshop meeting to discuss policies, then in their regular monthly meeting. Miriam Lenhart, age 87, of Odessa, Washington, passed away on January 20, 2014. She was born in 1926 to William and Ida Wahl of Lind, and was raised on their family farm in the Ralston area. She graduated from Ritzville High School in 1944. Miriam married Laurence Lenhart of Odessa in 1949. A daughter, Cheri, was born in 1950 and a son, Gary, in 1953. The family spent some years in California before returning to the Odessa area in 1967 to farm the Lenhart family land. Miriam and Laurence retired from farming in 1989 and moved...
A Quilters Tea is being held Monday, February 10, at Any Occasion Banquet Hall, to benefit The Odessa Quilt Club’s quilt-making project for Angel Flight, and hopefully also make a monetary donation to the Angel Flight organization. Since I have a dear relative that teaches in that district and since Odessa and Moses Lake are on the same side of the state, I might question the values imparted to those students.
