    Shipping costs have always been a major concern for Odessa area grain growers. Just before the harvest of 1911, the Great Northern Railway announced a cut in the rate to ship grain to Seattle from Odessa. The Milwaukee Road had built the spur line up Rocky Coulee from Warden to Marcellus the year before and was offering cheaper rates to the Coast to growers who shipped out of Packard, Schoonover, Lauer, Batum, Moody and Ruff stations.     Women’s modified fast-pitch softball tournament will be held Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 at Finney Field. The tournament begins Saturday at 9 a.m., with play lasting until 7:15 p.m. On Sunday, play will start at 10 a.m. and end around 3:45 p.m. The league has grown to nine teams this year, after being down to only four teams two years ago.     Every spring, early in the past century, students at Lincoln County high school gathered for a tennis tournament combined with oratorical and declamatory contests.
