Fourteen teams played golf in the Scramble Tournament on Saturday, May 17, at the Harrington Golf and Country Club with dinner served after the tournament. Odessa Historical Society members Pat Gies, Scott Heimbigner, Joe Wollman, and Paul Scheller last week completed the landscaping around St. Matthew’s Church, placing decorative rock with the help of Don Strebeck and his skid loader. This action finishes the refurbishment of the church which was repainted and received a new steel roof by Diamond Construction last year. Monday, May 26, 2014 the Odessa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7395 and the Odessa American Legion Post #105 will be doing Memorial Day services at 10 a.m. in the activity room at the hospital in Odessa and at 11 a.m. at the Odessa Cemetary. Flags will be dedicated at the service for US Army veteran Henry Deife and US Navy veteran, LaMar Heimbigner. Deife was killed in Germany during WWII and the flag was draped over his coffin. Katie DeWulf has been a great addition to the tennis team. She is a hard worker and competitive. Cydnee Kieffer has helped to keep tennis going in the Odessa-Harrington Athletic Co-Op. Without her skill and dedication, Coach Rachel Roberts is not sure the program would still be around. Cydnee will be greatly missed next year because she is a senior. Kim and Marla Schmidt celebrated their recent marriage with a reception Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Any Occasion Banquet Hall. After a lengthy discussion about the pros and cons of the town controlling its own garbage pick-up versus contracting with Consolidated Disposal Services, the council decided they would like the Town of Odessa to keep control of the garbage collection process.
