Hartline landmark turns ninety

Hartline Landmark Turns NinetyHartline, WA. - Aug. 7—Whether it’s a full-blown bash with a crowd to honor an old friend, or a small family gathering for a little loved one, it’s clear that young and old alike love celebrating birthdays. For community volunteers working to rehabilitate and reuse the Hartline School, this local landmark is like an old friend - unique, irreplaceable, and still here after all these years. “What better way to honor this stately structure’s 90th year and celebrate its future in the community than with a birthday party?” suggested the volunteers. The Historic Hartline School’s 90th Birthday Gala on September 8th will be a first rate celebration in many ways: the first public event of its kind in this venue, the first birthday party for the local landmark, and the first public fundraising event sponsored by the Hartline Betterment Organization. Scheduled for 3 - 9 pm, the Birthday Gala will follow the Anything That Rolls Parade and Hartline Community Days from 10:30 am - 3 pm at the City Park. “We invite area residents and visitors from across the region to ‘Head Out To Hartline’ on September 8th for a full day of fun and fundraising. Help celebrate our progress with the Hartline School Rehab and Reuse project and the structure’s new purpose in this area’s future” says Jerry Dormaier, one of the event organizers.A full roster of activities is planned for the afternoon and evening celebration. Music fans can dance and sing along to rockabilly hits by The 45’s, a Spokane-area band favored by locals. Art buffs will find plenty of original work in a variety of media by regional artists at the invitational Art Show and Sale. The Youth Art Display will provide a venue for young artists, ages 18 and under, to show their work and developing talent. Family estate wines from Whitestone Winery of Lake Roosevelt and handcrafted brews from Rocky Coulee Brewing Company of Odessa will be featured for the wine and beer tasting. Roast House Coffee of Spokane will provide tastings of their organic “Farm to Cup” varietal coffees, roasted in small batches for fresher flavor. Shop at Hartline 2nd Chance gift shop; visit the updated Community Library; browse the collection of community and Hartline School mementos intended for the soon-to-be-developed museum. Enjoy a slice of birthday cake as you meander through the building and meet up with old friends. Enter the hourly drawings for door prizes - who knows what you might win?Birthday Gala organizers say that proceeds from the event will benefit the Hartline School Rehab and Reuse Project. The Hartline Betterment Organization, a 501(c)3 nonprofit registered in Washington, is in its third year of collaborating with volunteers and the Port of Hartline on this community revitalization project.
