Letter to the Editor: Political rhetoric heats up as election gets nearer

After seeing the letter to Mitt Romney in last week’s paper, I believe that letter got addressed to the wrong person. No matter what Mr. Romney says or does or how you twist his words to your liking, he can do nothing. He is still a private citizen. He is not President yet. It is not Mr. Romney's fault that 47 percent of Americans are dependent on the government. It is not his fault that 23 million Americans are out of work. Nor is it his fault that 47 million are on food stamps.

Who is the president now? Who spent 5 trillion dollars in the last 3.5 years and has nothing to show for it? I wonder how many millionaires or billionaires the $788 billion in stimulus money made that was supposed to create jobs. Where did that money go? How much of that money is going into the Obama campaign? Who is telling the people of this country you are free to worship any religion you want, as long as you aren’t a Christian and talk about God.

Who has been telling us for the last two weeks about the terrorist attack in Libya and how it was caused by a video that nobody saw? For two weeks, Obama and his administration lied to the American people. It is pretty obvious he cares more for the Muslins and terrorist than he does for the people of this country. How can you send the Marines out to guard an embassy and not give them any ammunition?

And then we have the old, tired democratic version of who pays taxes. I sure wish they would contact the IRS before they spout their gobbledy gook. Wall Street Journal: “In 1980, when the top income tax rate was 70%, the richest 1% paid only 19% of all income taxes; now, with a top rate of 35%, they pay more than double that share.” The top 50% pay 97% of all income taxes. The top 1% pay 39%, up 2% from 2000 when President Bush took office. (Source: Data from the Latest Tax Year Released by the IRS.)

In March of 2006, then Senator, Barack H. Obama said, “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

Isn’t it amazing how the words you speak, the lies, the broken promises, come back to haunt and expose you for what you are. An empty suit. When you can’t run on your record, you destroy the other person with lies. As Clint Eastwood said, “President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.”
