Straw poll at LC air shows Carson favored over Trump

The Lincoln County Fair Presidential Poll is closed and the results are in. Over 280 people came by the Republican booth in the Commercial Building this year, and 268 of them participated in the first ever straw poll – only instead of straw, the local GOP volunteers used industrial washers slipped over dowels. First place with 28% of the vote was claimed by Dr. Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon and author who founded the Carson Scholars program with his wife Candy. Second place went to Donald Trump with 23%, famed as an entrepreneur, CEO and host of two reality TV shows.

The remaining 14 currently declared Republican candidates ranked as follows: Carly Fiorina and Ted Cruz (tied with 8.6%), Jeb Bush (7.8%), Marco Rubio (5.2%), Mike Huckabee (4.9%), Chris Christie and Rand Paul (tied with 2.6%), and a smattering of votes for Rick Santorum, John Kasich, Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, Lindsay Graham and George Pataki.

The Lincoln County Republicans would like to thank all those who participated for attending the fair, for taking an interest in their government and for the lively conversations with the volunteers at the booth.
