State legislators visit Odessa, discuss recent sessions

Odessa's elected representatives in Olympia, Senator Judy Warnick and Reps. Matt Manweller and Tom Dent visited The Odessa Record Monday afternoon to provide the newspaper with an update on bills that each had sponsored or supported, committees to which they belonged and their views on some of the actions taken during the extended sessions. Odessa Councilwoman Lois Fisher and Mayor Doug Plinski also sat in on the session, as did aides for each of the three legislators.

All three legislators are Republicans and sat they are committed to providing necessary services and improvements in infrastructure without having to raise taxes. They felt they had convinced many of their colleagues on both sides of the aisle that a budget could be crafted without raising taxes, arguing that many people feel overwhelmed already by the fees, taxes and so forth that they pay for government to function, the legislators said.

Warnick, Dent and Manweller also appeared in the Deutschesfest parade on Saturday, and all three said they had enjoyed the Fest and all the activities that went on.

When they return to Olympia for the next legislative session, they will still face many more battles over educational issues, taxation, health and mental health issues and many other issues of vital importance to us all.
