Quilt Club's raffle quilt wins statewide awards

Fronen Steppdecker, The Odessa Quilt Club, entered their 2018 Raffle Quilt in the Washington State Quilters Show this past weekend in Spokane. Their entry, “Summer Star Flower” brought home two prize ribbons, winning Best of Category, Machine Quilting, and third place in People’s Choice voting for Pieced and Appliquéd Combo Quilts, Professionally Quilted. Over 500 quilts were entered in the show.

Beth North, owner of True North Quilting, Spokane, was the machine quilter. She was selected by the Quilt Guild to quilt this quilt because she was the winner of the Machine Quilting Award at Odessa’s 2017 Quilt Show.

The quilt is currently on display at Experience Quilts! in Odessa, along with the People’s Choice Ribbon. The Inland Northwest Machine Quilters Guild award ribbon will be forwarded to Beth, as is custom, because it is her work that earned the machine quilting award.

The quilt was also entered in the judged quilts section, where it received a score of 86, quite good for a quilt assembled by a group. Variances in sewing machines and quilters’ skill levels can affect scoring. Guild members are pleased with the scoring and plan to work on suggestions for producing more precise piecing and appliqué in the future.
