INCIDENT LOG

Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, June 25: A caller reported smelling smoke in the 200 block of Marshall Street in Davenport.

A vehicle was wedged under a tree after its driver swerved to miss a deer and went off SR 25 about 17 miles north of Davenport and over an embankment about 20 feet from the roadway. Davenport ambulance personnel initially were dispatched in case of a possible injury.

A Davenport man advised dispatchers he couldn’t find some checks he left in a glove box inside a pickup truck he keeps in a garage and wasn’t sure whether they were lost or stolen.

A Sprague caller reported a resident of the 500 block of West 3rd appeared to be screaming while trashing his place. A responding deputy learned the man was upset over a breakup.

Responding to the 300 block of East Marjorie, Odessa ambulance personnel joined local police in tending to a 74-year-old woman who suffered a possible heart attack or seizure. She was transported to Odessa Memorial Hospital and LifeFlight aerial ambulance was notified.

Odessa Police checked out a report of possible illegal dumping of barbecue ashes in the 500 block of East 1st Avenue.

Tuesday, June 26: A log boom broke loose at the Lincoln boat launch.

Landlines at the sheriff’s office were affected by an outage that disrupted telephone service to CenturyLink customers in Lincoln County and other areas of Eastern Washington.

A caller reported seeing two semi-trucks and pilot cars driving at high speeds on U.S. 2 while approaching Wilbur.

A cell phone and other items, including cash, were stolen from a pickup truck parked at the Sprague Lake boat launch.

Deputies trespassed three juvenile boys from the area near Davenport Elementary School where a train had been parked after receiving a report that kids were running on the top of the train.

Wednesday, June 27: Responding to the Fishtrap exit on I-90, Sprague ambulance personnel assisted a 36-year-old man having complications from surgery and suffering migraine headaches as well. He was taken to a Spokane hospital.

Deputies investigated a report of a possible illegal marijuana grow in the Davenport area.

A loose, but friendly, pit bull dog was captured in the 1300 block of Logan Street in Davenport and taken to the city pound.

Responding to property adjacent to Sand Flats Drive near Davenport, deputies handled a dispute involving firearms and two neighbors, one of whom felt threatened by the other’s dogs.

Lincoln Hospital personnel expressed concern about a man who “acted strange, talking to himself and seeing things that weren’t there.”

Thursday, June 28: Reardan EMTs and Wellpinit ambulance personnel assisted a man in his 20s who fainted while at work.

A driver escaped injury after he swerved to miss a deer and ended up in a ditch alongside Waukon Road near Fancher Road.

Friday, June 29: A Creston man reported receiving a scam IRS call.

A resident of the 1300 block of Logan Street in Davenport reported being scared after a neighbor yelled at him in “an abrasive manner.”

A structure fire spread to a field and charred an Inland Power and Light Co. pole in the 38000 block of Bahr Road North near Wilbur.

Catching up to them at the U.S. 2 Telford rest area, a deputy warned the drivers of two pilot cars about traveling at high speeds.

A tractor seat in the middle of U.S. 2 three miles east of Davenport forced westbound drivers to go around it to avoid collisions.

Deputies responded to a report of two men fighting outside the Davenport Subway restaurant.

Deputies investigated a report of someone trespassing at corrals along Brown Road at its intersection with the Old Sprague Highway.

Saturday, June 30: A Davenport area caller advised dispatchers that a crop duster appeared to be flying extremely low to the ground.

A resident of the 500 block of Ross Street in Davenport told dispatchers she detected a strange smell and her eyes burned after having natural gas installed. Davenport firefighters and ambulance personnel were sent to the scene.

A landing zone for a LifeFlight aerial ambulance was set up at the Harrington School football field after a one-vehicle rollover collision took place on SR 28, to which Odessa ambulance and fire personnel were dispatched.

A caller told dispatchers that someone was tracking and spotlighting him while he was using the Mean Canyon trail off Welch Creek Road.

A responding deputy couldn’t substantiate a caller’s report of a domestic dispute involving residents of Eagle View Lane north of Reardan.

A deputy investigated a report that a window of a vehicle had been broken out while parked in the 300 block of West 4th in Sprague.

A caller requested assistance in dealing with an unwanted person on property adjacent to Miles Road North.

A semi-truck traveling west on U.S. 2 near Davenport was observed passing on the right and almost causing a collision. A deputy successfully intercepted the truck.

A caller phoned in her concerns about two men she saw walking up and down Maxwell Street in Davenport who appeared to be “scoping out” houses.

Sunday, July 1: A boat carrying six people got stranded on the Spokane River just west of Two Rivers Resort and was eventually towed to Seven Bays Marina.

Deputies were involved with Colville Tribal Police in a search for a vehicle containing two suspects in the theft of two paint sprayers from a construction site north of the Keller Ferry area.

Deputies assisted a Deer Meadows resident who found an injured deer in a fence adjacent to Eagle Nest Drive.

Encountering him near the intersection of the Old Sprague Highway and Miller Ranch Road, a deputy assisted a man who said he had walked between 10 and 15 miles after being kicked out of a van by a group of people he had been traveling with. The deputy drove him into Sprague and provided some food and water.

Davenport ambulance personnel took a Davenport woman to Lincoln Hospital after she was stung twice by one or more bees in the vicinity of the Cottonwood Apartments.

Two vehicles, side-by-side, were racing in the 600 block of Lincoln Street in Davenport. One of the drivers received a deputy’s citation for reckless driving.

National Park Service personnel responded to a report of several individuals shooting guns from a boat docked at Hawk Creek near the mouth of the river and determined no crime had occurred.

From June 25 to July 1, eight individuals were held in the Lincoln County Jail under contract with the Washington State Department of Corrections.
