WILBUR – The Gorilla golfers traveled to Wilbur and Chewelah last week to compete twice as the team tunes up for regional championship qualifiers in Deer Park, which is two weeks away. Here are the scores for each Gorilla in the two matches.

Wilbur (Nine holes)-April 15

Robert Bitcon-42

Maddox Schumacher-48

Joe Rodrigues-63

Jada Rodrigues-61

Chewelah (18 holes)-April 19

Kristof Panke-71

Robert Bitcon-91

Keaton Hupp-126

Maddox Schumacher-95

Jada Rodrigues-133

Additionally, Joe Rodrigues and Hailey Nonnemacher-Stiles shot a practice nine-hole round in Chewelah. They shot 66 and 72 respectively.

Analysis from head coach Trenton Briney: “Kristof has had the lowest score for all 3 matches we've played, setting him up to be the low score average for league play this year. I was very proud of how the kids played at Chewelah. We are used to golf courses with lots of open space and that is not Chewelah as it is lined with trees on both sides of every fairway. Maddox shot is best score in an 18-hole event and has been steadily getting better each match. Robert has been getting back into his groove. He has made some changes with his swing and is now working hard to translate those changes onto the course. For some of the kids these have been their first ever competitive golf matches, so learning to play in that environment is a lot different than just playing with friends on the weekend but they all are showing good improvement. Our goal this year is to just keep getting lower scores each match and having fun as we gear up for Deer Park in 2 weeks.”
