Offense sputters as Reardan falls to Liberty

SPANGLE—The offensive struggles continued for the Reardan football team Friday, Sept. 24. The visitors traveled to face the Liberty Lancers and were shut out through three quarters en route to a 22-6 defeat.

Reardan suffered its third straight league loss and fell to 1-3 overall this season and 0-3 in NE2B play.

Liberty led 15-0 at halftime after Logan Wilson hit Kyler McCombs for an eight-yard touchdown and Ashton Strobel ran for a 50-yard score. Reardan sophomore quarterback Tate Nelson was sacked in the end zone for a safety to add two points to Liberty’s total.

Reardan got on the board for the first time in seven quarters when Nelson found senior running back Cody Sprecher for a 46-yard touchdown in the final quarter. Strobel added another 41-yard rushing touchdown to bring the final score to 22-6.

The visitors were outgained on offense 368-112 and averaged just 2.6 yards per carry while Liberty gained 8.9 yards a tote. Reardan dominated the time of possession, but managed just seven first downs to 16 for Liberty.

Sprecher led Reardan with 64 rushing yards, 43 receiving yards and one touchdown. Strobel starred for Liberty with 142 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Jake Jeske added 74 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Reardan will look to get back on track this Friday in a homecoming matchup with Kettle Falls. The Bulldogs haven’t won a game since 2017. The kickoff from Joe Johnson Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
