Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Deadline is Dec. 31 to close budget gap, approve official budget
DAVENPORT—The county commissioners went through the formality of approving the final preliminary budget before they approve the final 2022 budget and attempt to close a budget gap that’s grown to $1.3 million. The preliminary budget was approved Monday, Dec. 6.
Typically, the commissioners balance the gap with a cash reserve and try to stay conservative with revenues to not oversell the potential for revenue, commissioner Rob Coffman said. A budget gap is typical for a small county.
The current expense fund approved in the preliminary budget totals $9,593,298 with a projected $8,260,046 in revenues, leaving a $1,333,252 gap. That number grew from just over $1.2 million, which was in the first draft of the budget, partially due to an increased cost in medical premiums, Coffman said.
The preliminary budget’s current expense fund allots $456,971 for the assessor’s office, $544,227 for the auditor’s office, $1,569 for the board of equalization, $2,748 for civil services, $291,957 for the clerk’s office, $538,498 for the commissioners, $209,745 for the planning department, $125,774 for cooperative extensions, $10,000 for the coroner, $414,381 for the courthouse and $494,429 for data processing.
The budget also includes $340,323 for information services, $337,290 for district court, $89,501 for probation, $991,299 for the jail, $172,108 for juvenile services, $57,770 for consolidated juvenile services and $548,358 for the prosecuting attorney’s office.
Other expenditures in the current expense fund include $604,781 for the sheriff’s office administration, $1,466,879 for sheriff operations, $315,000 for Davenport law enforcement, $185,400 for Wilbur law enforcement, $237,587 for superior court and $400,454 for the treasurer’s office.
The commissioners have until Dec. 31 to close the budget gap and approve the final 2022 budget. The final commissioners’ meeting of the year is Monday, Dec. 20 at 8 a.m.
