DAVENPORT--A substation regulator at the transforming station on Third Street here caught fire this morning, causing power to go out in the city. Crews from Fire District No. 5 and Avista Utilities were dispatched around 8 a.m. and were on scene for about 90 minutes. A crew from Avista in Spokane is on its way to work on repairs, which is expected to take the rest of the day.
"We tried to put it out with a couple fire extinguishers, but it kept re-igniting," District No. 5 chief Craig Sweet said.
He added the fire started ignited in the transformer due to an overloading issue.
