Local hoops teams earn holiday tournament wins

Davenport boys top two 1A teams at West Valley Tournament

SPOKANE--Local basketball teams in Davenport and Reardan were mostly successful in their quests for victories at local holiday tournaments. The Davenport boys and girls participated in the Eagle Holiday Classic at West Valley High School in Spokane, while the Reardan boys and girls hosted 1B schools in the annual Reardan Lions Club Classic.

Davenport boys beat Riverside, Colville

The Davenport boys continued their stellar start to the season with two victories over 1A Riverside and Colville at West Valley. The Gorillas thrashed the Rams of Riverside 55-38 Wednesday, Dec. 29 behind 20 points from Tennesee Rainwater and 12 points from Wyatt Telecky. Davenport then handed Colville its first loss of the season with a 61-56 victory Thursday, Dec. 30. Brenick Soliday led Davenport with 23 points and Rainwater added 21 points as the Gorillas overcame 25 points from Colville's Rhett Foulks.

Davenport is now 8-1 overall this season with a home game against St. George's scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 4 in Davenport.

Davenport girls fall to Lakeside, Mabton

The Davenport girls weren't quite as successful as the boys team at West Valley. The Gorillas fell to the Lakeside Eagles 46-36 Wednesday. Lena Waters led Davenport with 10 points. Davenport struggled against Mabton, falling 65-41 Thursday.

Reardan girls win Lions Club Tournament

The Reardan girls won their host tournament thanks to wins over Garfield-Palouse and Oakesdale. Against Gar-Pal, Ayden Krupke scored 24 points and Madalyn Dewey scored 14 in a 52-38 victory Tuesday, Dec. 28. Reardan then ground out a sloppy, defensive affair against Oakesdale 43-33 Wednesday behind 21 more points from Krupke. The girls are 8-3 overall this season and take on Chewelah for the second time this season Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Reardan boys thrash Gar-Pal before title game cancelled

The Reardan boys easily dusted off Gar-Pal 64-35 in the Lions Club Tournament semifinal Tuesday, Dec. 28. A balanced Reardan scoring attack was headed by Cody Sprecher's 14 points and Rysen Soliday's 11 points. Reardan was set to take on Wellpinit in the tournament final, but the Redskins canceled the match after they had a player test positive for COVID-19.
