Teams face uphill battle for state berth
DAVENPORT—If either NE2B softball team from Lincoln County is going to make a state tournament run, it will take a string of upsets and players across the board to step up.
Reardan enters the NE2B district tournament as the No. 7 seed, while Davenport will have to win a pigtail game for an opportunity at the league’s top seed.
Davenport finished last in the league with a league record of 2-12 and an overall record of 3-13 after splitting a pair of games with Lind-Ritzville/Sprague on Senior Night Tuesday, May 10.
The Gorillas must now rematch the Broncos Monday, May 16 in Ritzville at 2:30 p.m. in a pigtail game to kick off the district tournament. The winner heads to Colfax to match up with the No. 1 seeded Bulldogs at 10 a.m. the next day in the first round.
Reardan, meanwhile, is off to Spangle for a tilt with the No. 2 seeded Liberty Lancers, also at 10 a.m. May 17.
If either team can pull off a gargantuan upset, they’ll move to the winner’s semifinals. With a loss, they move into a loser’s bracket where they must win four games in a row to keep their seasons alive.
Other first round games include No. 3 Asotin against No. 6 Kettle Falls and No. 4 Northwest Christian (Colbert) against No. 5 Chewelah.
The top two finishers at the district tournament advance to the state tournament.
