Seven Tigers headed to state track meet

Local athletes qualify at 1B District 6/7/9 championships

LIBERTY LAKE – Seven Odessa track and field athletes are headed to the state 1B meet Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

They qualified for state during the 1B District 6/7/9 Championships on May 20-21 at Ridgeline High School.

Mason Wright is the only local boy to qualify for state.

Hayden Schuh, Ashlyn Neilsen, Lexi Eden, Lily Starkel, Reegan Carstensen and Kathryn Burnett all qualified in the girls competition.

Wright qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 47.44 seconds.

Schuh will compete at state in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, in which she placed first at district, as well as part of the 4x200 relay team and in javelin following another first-place win at district. Burnett qualified in shot put by taking third at district.

Carstensen will compete in both relays, the 100-meter hurdles.

Eden, an eighth-grader, is part of the 4x100 relay team.

Neilsen will compete in both relays, the high jump and the triple jump.

Starkel is also part of both relay teams, and additionally competes at state in the high jump and long jump.

The Tiger boys tied for 14th place in team scoring with 9 at the district meet.

Meanwhile, the local girls finished second with 85.5 points, bested only by cross-country rival Wilbur-Creston with 100.5 points.

Boys

Mason Wright – 100-meter hurdles, 7th, 20.42 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, 3rd, 47.44 seconds (a personal record).

4X100 Relay Team – (Mason Wright, Christian Anderson, Aiden Schmierer, Hudson Watson and David Strode), 8th, 55.48 seconds.

Girls

Alexis Eden – 100-meter, 7th, 14.33 seconds (a personal record.

Hayden Schuh – 100-meter hurdles, 1st, 17.07 seconds; 300-meter hudles, 1st, 49 seconds; javenlin, 1st, 117-02.00

Reegan Carstensen – 100-meter hurdles, 3rd, 18.14 seconds

4x100 Relay Team – (Reegan Carsensen, Lily Starkel, Alexis Eden and Ashlyn Neisen), 2nd, 54.56 seconds.

4X200 Relay Team -- (Reegan Carsensen, Lily Starkel, Alexis Eden and Hayden Schuh), 2nd, 1:53.49.

Kathryn Burnette – Shot put, 3rd, 33-01.50; discus, 7th, 94-00.00; javelin, 12th, 51-08.00

Lily Starkel – High jump, 1st, 4-11.00; long jump, 4th, 15-03.50 (a personal record)

Ashlyn Neilsen – High jump, 3rd, 4-09.00; triple jump, 6th, 28-08.00
