City releases second quarter figures

DAVENPORT—The city’s financial standing for the second fiscal quarter of 2022, including its spending habits and money taken in, was presented to the finance committee prior to council’s regular meeting Wednesday, July 29.

Just 60% of the city’s budgeted revenue came in for the second quarter, with $1,848,339 received out of $3,089,080 budgeted.

The city received 61% of its expected revenue for property tax ($165,294), 73% of its expected sales and use tax ($220,054,) 50% of its expected motor vehicle fuel tax ($15,425), 56% of expected hotel/motel tax revenue ($2,224), 25% of expected water fees ($114,446), 28% of expected sewer fees ($114,506) and 60% of expected garbage fees ($186,938).

To counter this, the city spent just 40% of its budget for expenditures. $1,582,397 was spent from a budget of $2,971,663.

The city spent 50% of its forecasted expenditures for legislative and executive finances ($19,263), 72% of its budget for finance and facilities ($64,437), 50% of the expenditures budget for law enforcement ($157,708), 17% of the budget for fire ($6,969), 53.6% in interfund transfers while paying off a sewer loan ($575,819), 30% on the library ($13,181), 23% on the cemetery ($19,672), 17% of the budget for streets ($70,317), 24% of the budget for the airport ($35,366), 38% of the budget for water ($194,241), 31% of the budget for sewer ($161,107) and 38% of the budget for garbage ($176,431).

The city received more revenue compared to the previous six second fiscal quarters in property taxes, sales taxes, utility taxes, real estate excise taxes, hotel/motel taxes, sewer fees and garbage fees.

The city received less money compared to 2021’s second quarter in public safety sales tax, local government assistance, liquor excise tax and liquor board profits.
