Marie Hougen-Huck

Dec. 8, 1925 –Aug. 1, 2022

Our beloved Marie passed away on Aug. 1, 2022 at Brookdale Hearthstone in Moses Lake. Marie was born on Dec. 8, 1925 to Samuel Haugen and Lydia (Lang) Haugen in Warden Wash. Marie grew up in and graduated from Cashmere High School in 1944.

After graduation Marie attended Loris Beauty School in Spokane graduating in 1945. She worked as a beautician for three years and decided a change might be nice so she applied at Bell Telephone and accepted the position as a telephone operator. During her three years there she met Joe Huck.

They were married May 13, 1951. Joe and Marie were blessed with Ted in April of 1952 and in Nov. 1955 Larry was born. Marie enjoyed life as a housewife and taking care of two spirited boys. Marie became a part-time bookkeeper for her husband's business, Huck's Transfer and Storage and had a variety of part- time positions working at the Soil Conservation District and Ticor Title. Marie became a secretary at Davenport Elementary full time and finished her working career at the Lincoln County Auditor's Office. Marie retired at age 85 to take care of Joe. After Joe's passing in 2011, health issues forced Marie to move closer to Larry and wife Nancy in Moses Lake.

Throughout Marie's life she enjoyed many activities such as fund raising for several charities. She was a Cub Scout den mother and loved Garden Club as well as attending Sewing Club meetings where there was more chit chat than sewing. Marie was a member of Eastern Star and a member of the Davenport Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school. Marie and Joe volunteered at Bloomsday and drove blood samples to Spokane from Lincoln County Hospital. Marie's favorite past times were traveling, reading, gardening, shopping and playing the slots at the casinos.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lydia, her husband Joe, brothers Harvey Haugen, Donald Haugen and half-brother Clarence Haugen.

She is survived by her son Ted from Cheney, Wash., her son Larry (Nancy) from Moses Lake, Wash. and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at Davenport Cemetery Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lincoln Hospital Foundation. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at http://www.strate-funeral.com for the Huck family.
