Davenport workers to get 4% COLA

Discussion comes on heels of budget prep

DAVENPORT—After some prior discussion about an exact figure, city council approved a 4% cost of living increase for its employees at the regular meeting Oct. 26, city administrator Steve Goemmel said.

The finance committee had previously discussed figures as low as 2% and as high as 10%, though the consensus was to prefer a number on the lower end of that spectrum.

Council decided against selling a piece of city property to Jim Buchanan for the purpose of building a shed, but did approve a vacation of the south 20 feet of Sinclair Street between 10th and 11th Streets. Council did allow Buchanan to go to the city planning committee to obtain a variance, through which he can make a shed fit on his own property, Goemmel said.

Council entered executive session to discuss potential litigation from Capital Rivers Commercial, a California-based real estate agency developing the new AirLift Northwest hangar at the airport that is upset with the city over disagreements regarding a consent agreement concerning the company’s financing of the hangar project.

No resolution had been reached as of press time, but no litigation had been filed either.

Council held a public hearing regarding the 2023 budget, but no members of the public spoke.

City maintenance superintendent Fred Bell told council a trail cam he installed at the local skate park was stolen, which would have required the perpetrator to shimmy a tree to commit the deed.

Council will next convene at City Hall Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
