Davenport wrestlers win Gorilla Invitational

DAVENPORT-The local high school wrestlers got off to a successful 2022-23 start last weekend, picking up a win in the Gorilla Invitational Saturday, Dec. 3.

The boys were first amongst competition from Almira-Coulee/Hartline, Wilbur-Creston, Colfax, Kettle Falls, Selkirk, Kittitas-Thorp, Innovation, Lake Roosevelt, Liberty, Northwest Christian and Oroville.

Also competing for the first time this year were female wrestlers from Davenport. Freshmen Stormy Conway and Kayla Andrews took the mat, though girls results weren't available as of press time.

The boys picked up three first-place finishes en route to their team victory.

"We still have a lot of room to improve, which is exciting," head coach Matt Schneider said. "But these kids are tough, and they fight."
