Reardan wrestlers place second in 10-team scramble

Reardan's Vaea LaMoureaux turns Mersadies Miravalle of Lewis and Clark in a girls exhibition match.

MEDICAL LAKE--The Reardan wrestlers earned a second-place finish at the Medical Lake Scramble on Saturday, Dec. 3. The host Cardinals finished fifth out of the 10 teams in the tournament.

Pullman won the event with 266 points while Reardan had 206. Lewis and Clark placed third with 165 points, followed by Rogers who had 150 points.

Medical Lake scored 116 points, which put it in fifth place, and West Valley placed sixth with 105 points. Cheney had 101 points, Mt. Spokane had 69 points, Lind-Ritzville had 29 points and Tekoa-Rosalia had 28 points.

Reardan's Preston Neufeld went 3-0 to win the 106-pound division. Carson Kline and Carson Durbin also went 3-0 to win the 126-pound division and the 220-pound division, respectively.

Joey Matusik and Troy Routh placed second in their divisions and Conner Kline and Tristin Burril placed third in theirs. Lane Heinemann, Sterling McGlaughlin and Preston Winn recorded fourth place finishes in their divisions.


Vaea LaMoureaux won her only match.

Medical Lake's top finishers were Abram Kane, Chris Garza, Ty Moore and True Cole, all placing third in their divisions. Jonathan Sumerlin and Gavin Chaffee placed fourth in their divisions.

"Our team was outstanding," Reardan coach Justin Neufeld said. "They worked hard and supported each other. There were a lot of great battles today and that's what pushes these guys and gals to get better."


Reardan will next compete at East Valley High School on Thursday, Dec. 8. Medical Lake will be at West Valley High School on Dec. 10.
