OODESSA — The Tigers ran the court against Waterville 70-41 on Friday, Dec. 30.

Waterville started by making a 3-point shot, which Odessa senior Collin Martin countered with a lay-up.

Junior Jacob Scrupps scored the most points at 22 and added 8 rebounds.

Senior Collin Martin scored 14 points and had three rebounds. Sophomore Corbyn Nielsen scored 18 points and had 9 rebounds.

Junior Chad Strebeck found himself on the board with 6 points and 2 rebounds.

But nothing prepared Odessa’s defense for their next game against Oakesdale on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The Nighthawks came into the first quarter, making 4 points reasonably quickly.

Odessa countered with 4 points with 2:16 left in the first quarter.

The end of the first quarter concluded with Oakesdale leading 10-5.

The Oakesdale girls didn’t seem to sweat as they glided down the court.

Once Odessa got its bearings in the second quarter, the Tigers tied 20-20 by halftime.

The third quarter started with Odessa sophomore Corbyn Nielsen scoring 2 points, with Oakesdale countering shortly after.

The Nighthawks put another 20 points on the board by the end of the third quarter, with Odessa adding just 13 points.

The Tigers trailed 40-23.

Oakesdale scored 6 more points shortly into the fourth quarter and scored 30 more points in the game, with Odessa putting in another 34 points to make the final score 70-57.

“Oakesdale is a good team and very well coached,” Coach H.P. Carstensen said. “We played a good first half.”

Carstensen said foul trouble impeded the Tigers in the final 16 minutes.

“Foul trouble hurt us in the second half,” he said. “We’re getting better and that is the key right there.”
