One-year levy sought by Cemetery District No. 7

SPRAGUE—Taxpayers are being asked to help Cemetery District No. 7 fund cemetery maintenance and operation expenses through a regular property tax levy on the Feb. 14 special election ballot.

The levy would be collected for one year (2024), district commissioner Joy Vold said. Taxpayers would be charged approximately 28 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value for a total collection amount of $35,000.

Voters with a property value of $300,000 would be charged $84 toward this levy.

Vold said a levy was last passed in the general election Nov. 2020. 235 voters approved the levy, while 134 voters disapproved.

Voters in the precincts of Sprague city limits, rural Sprague and some portions of Canby, Edwall, Mohler and Waukon will see this proposition on their ballots.

Cemetery District No. 7 borders the Adams County and Whitman County lines to the south, the Spokane County line to the east, Harrington-Tokio Road to the west and stair-steps to the north along Rolinco Road, just north of Hardington Road, up to Stolp Road and continues east along Wallace Road and just south of Waukon Road in its northeastern point.
