Finkbeiner named new clerk

HARRINGTON-The city here has a new permanent clerk. Donna Finkbeiner replaced Jere Lee in the position in January and has begun work at City Hall.

Finkbeiner said she heard of the job through word of mouth and decided to try out for it.

The city clerk position was vacated in mid-December last year after Lee handed in his resignation.

Finkbeiner is originally from Texas, but her husband Terry is from Washington State.

She is a former secondary teacher; she taught biology, physiology and intensive English to students with a different first language.

"It was an experience to remember," Finkbeiner said. "You can travel in Europe incredibly cheap."

After a discussion, Finkbeiner and her husband decided to move back to the states.

"Well, originally, I was teaching overseas," Finkbeiner said. "We decided to come home. My husband is from Washington State."

She said they moved to Montana for a little while, where she worked with youth on a mission. The couple then moved to Idaho for two years and finally settled into Harrington about two years ago.

"We had an opportunity to buy a place with 18 acres," Finkbeiner said. "We hurried on over here from Idaho."

Finkbeiner said it felt peaceful when they visited the homestead; the green countryside sold her.

She said they love the churches in the community and the city seems to care deeply about their town.

"Harrington is such a great place because the people care about one another," Finkbeiner said. "There's a strong commitment to unity and peace."
