Odessa golf ready to compete

ODESSA - The high school golf team is looking forward to another year on the green.

Head Coach Dillon Jahns said this week that the team looks sharp and is ready for the season.

Jahns returned as the head coach after being voted District 7 Coach of the Year in 2022.

"I feel like the season will go pretty well," Jahns said. "We've got a couple of boys that returned from last year that went to state."

Chad Streback has played golf the previous two seasons and is now in his third year as a junior.

He won all-league last year and his goal this year is to be better at his game.

"I was on the team my freshman and sophomore years," Streback said. "I want to get first place, but I just want to play better."

Senior Laela Hardung and Junior Melloney Deife placed second as a team last year.

Hardung says her goal this year was to place higher than last year.

She was ranked No. 13 in the state last season.

"I want to go to state and place higher than 13th," Hardung said.

Hardung said another personal goal is to have more consistent shots.

"I would like to get my shots more consistent," Hardung said. "Make them go straighter."
