Two more wins for Davenport track

Odessa girls get second-place league finish

COLFAX — The Davenport boys track and field team continued to pile up wins this week, winning the 23-school Undeberg Invitational in Ritzville Saturday, April 29 and the NE2B Team Championship in Colfax Tuesday, May 2.

The Odessa girls finished second at the District 7 1B Championships at Valley Christian Tuesday and third at the Undeberg Invite. Davenport’s girls were second in Colfax and 11th in Ritzville.

Reardan’s boys finished 10th and the girls finished 19th at the Undeberg Invite. The boys finished fifth at league championships and the girls were sixth.

The top five boys teams at the 2B league championships were Davenport, Chewelah, Colfax, St. George’s and Reardan. The top five girls were St. George’s, Davenport, Colfax, Northwest Christian and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Odessa finished second to Valley Christian and were followed in the top five by Springdale, Almira/Coulee Hartline and Wellpinit.

The league championships were the final regular season meets for area schools, as well as the final meets for athletes that won’t qualify for postseason play.

The first postseason meet for 2Bs, including Davenport and Reardan is the sub-district meet back in Ritzville at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. The top 16 qualifiers from District 7, which were determined in a meeting after press time, qualified for sub-districts.

The top eight qualifers in laned events and top 12 qualifiers in non-laned and field events will advance to the District 7 state qualifying meet at Colfax High School May 19-20. There, the top three finishers in each event advance to state.

Odessa will send its best athletes to Ritzville for the 1B 7/9 District Championships Wednesday, May 10. Top finishers will go to the 1B District 7/9 Regional Championships in Colfax May 19-20.
