Four local golfers qualify for state

3 Tigers, 1 Gorilla headed to Tumwater

LIBERTY LAKE - Four local high school golfers qualified for the state golf tournament with combined performances at sub-district and district tournaments. Juniors Jacob Scrupps, Chad Strebeck and Melloney Deife of Odessa and Maddox Schumacher of Davenport used their combined scores at the two tourmaments to advance.

Strebeck shot a 79 at subdistricts in Deer Park and 80 at districts at MeadowWood Golf Course to qualify, while Scrupps shot an 83 and 90. Deife shot 98 and 108 to be the lone local girl to qualify, though Laela Hardung is the first alternate on the girls side.

Schumacher shot an 82 at districts and 77 at subdistricts to be Davenport's lone representative at state. Grayson Danekas was the second Gorilla to qualify for districts with an 86 at sub-districts, but shot a 100 at districts to miss the cutoff score of 178.

Mac Larmer, McGuire Knopp and Abby Breithaupt missed the cut at subdistricts for Davenport.

The four local golfers headed to state will compete at Tumwater Valley Golf Course Tuesday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 24.
