Other athletes have seasons end
SPOKANE — After two days of district postseason matches involving the Reardan tennis team and the lone player from Davenport, one local player is still in contention to advance to state after play at Whitworth University Saturday, May 13.
Sophomore Kerstin Lundgren of Reardan will compete in a loser-out match at Mead High School Saturday, May 20. She must win three straight matches to be one of two players from District 7 to advance to state in girls singles.
Lundgren defeated St. George’s freshman Jessie Sawyer and fell to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Carlie Loop in her first two matches Saturday. She beat Davenport freshman Kaitlynne Guhlke to stay alive.
Fellow sophomore Hailey Fry fell to Chewelah sophomore Avi Sahota and St. George’s eighth-grader Reagan Heller in district play, while Guhlke dropped matches to Sahota and Lundgren.
The lone local girls doubles team was Reardan senior Khanh Linh Ho and freshman Elyanna Crego. The pair dropped matches to St. George’s senior Annie Sawyer and freshman Kalea Schlenker and Kettle Falls sophomores Laura Hallstaff and Hope Shurrum Saturday.
Reardan sophomore Edmund Preuschoff was the only boys player to advance to play Saturday. He fell to Chewelah junior Silas Warren.
