Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

Tribune Smokehouse to be sold

Brickners list restaurant anticipating retirement

DAVENPORT - One of just three sit-down restaurants remaining in the city is up for sale. Pete and Debra Brickner of Reardan have listed the Tribune Smokehouse, 502 Morgan Street, for sale in anticipation of a looming retirement.

Pete Brickner plans to retire from his day job, facilities/groundskeeper supervisor with Lincoln County, in 2025. The couple plans to sell the restaurant ahead of that retirement and listed it now knowing a potential sale could take some time.

"We've been kicking the idea around for at least a year," Pete Brickner said. "It might sell tomorrow, it might sell a year from now, you never know."

The Brickners hope the future buyer will keep the building a restaurant and perhaps expand operating hours and the menu to include breakfast options.

"The community needs something like this," Pete Brickner said. "We've received so much positive input from customers ever since we opened."

The barbeque-style restaurant first opened in 2016. Debra Brickner said the couple opened the restaurant as a way for her to contribute to their future retirement and to give back to the community.

"I was a waitress for many years and for many years afterward I would think about my regular customers," Debra Brickner said. "When we're done, it's going to be the same."

"When you do this, you meet people and get to know their story," Pete Brickner added, noting patrons from as far away as France and Japan have visited the restaurant. "At the same time, we're excited to see what the next chapter is."

In addition to keeping the building a restaurant, ideally the new owner would be another local with ties to the community.

"We're hoping it's somebody local that will care about the community," Pete Brickner said.

The restaurant's listing price is $450,000, a turnkey price that will include the building and all restaurant overhead and inventory.

"We're still growing," Debra Brickner said. "We're not looking to leave because we're struggling."
