OLYMPIA – The state Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting public comment through July 2 on hunting seasons being planned for the next three years.
Agency employees said they will develop rules for hunting based on public input received.
Once approved, agency employees will take public comments and a plan they develop to the state Fish and Wildlife Commission for approval. Once approved, only small changed would be allowed until the cycle ends in 2026.
“We encourage everyone interested in upcoming hunting seasons to send us feedback to help inform the rule making process,” agency Game Division Manager Anis Aoude said. “This process helps us better understand the experiences Washington hunters want, and we need your feedback to help us determine the path forward.”
In recent years, the agency has come under fire from hunters for its management of the deer and elk population in Northeast Washington.
Hunters have also been critical of the agency for its restrictions on bear hunting seasons.
Residents can submit proposed hunting changes to the Washington Administrative Code for 2024-2026 hunting seasons. Suggestions can be related to specific game species, permits, access, or general game management.
