Jane E. St Clair

Feb. 26, 1944 -June 18, 2023

Jane E. St Clair, 79, of Davenport, Wash., passed away June 18, 2023, surrounded by love and the singing of her children.

Jane was born at the end of World War II to Colonel Richard Fordyce Silver and Marie Dustin Silver in Fairfield, Iowa. As a military brat, Jane moved frequently and lived in Iowa, Florida, Kansas, Rhode Island, California, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Japan. She attended Narimasu High School in Tokyo and Hershey High School and Hershey Junior College in Hershey, Pa.

In 1963, she married Nathan English. They lived in Virginia, Utah, Idaho and Montana and had one child, Nathalie, prior to their divorce. In 1980, she married Dr. Robert St Clair. Together, they lived in Idaho, the Dominican Republic, the U.S. Virgin Islands, finally settling in Davenport, Wash., where she spent the last 30 years of her life. Jane and Bob had two children Ann Margaret and Robert.

In her youth, Jane studied and obtained a variety of skills. She played piano and was conversationnel in Japanese. She was also an accomplished equestrian rider, winning medals in an English saddle competition at the Japanese Imperial Palace. As a student, she studied ballroom dancing, and in her teen years, she was a lifeguard. During her youth, she also found a love for card games, often staying up late on school nights to play. Her love of games extended well into her later years. She frequently won board games claiming to not understand the rules only to later take advantage of her competitors' miscalculations of her skill.

As an adult, Jane lived an eclectic and interesting life. She rode a motorcycle, bred and showed cats and dogs, raised sheep, cattle, horses, goats and chickens. While living in Idaho she loved to fish and would often camp in her VW Camper van. Jane also loved learning about different cultures. In addition to her knowledge of the Japanese language and culture, she gained fluency in Spanish while living in the Caribbean.

Jane worked as a model in Missoula, Mont., as a jeweler at Cartier in the Caribbean, and as a medical transcriptionist at Lincoln County Hospital. She always loved her work and was loved by her coworkers.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert St Clair; one older brother Dusty Silver and her parents. She is survived by one older sister Nancy Poole: one younger brother Clark Silver: two daughters Nathalie (James) Freeman and Ann Margaret (Brandon Karpen) St. Clair and her son, Robert St. Clair. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jesse, Lilian, Sally (Freeman), and William and James (Karpen). Jane will be greeted in heaven by the numerous dogs that she owned, loved and lost to old age over the years.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of the United States. To leave condolences for the family, visit http://www.hennesseyvalley.com.
