Senator Charles Myers of Davenport was named the Republican nominee for the Fifth Congressional District in a Supreme Court decision that ruled ballots cast by absentee voters in a special primary election were legal.

The price of wheat remained the same as the previous week: 85 cents in Bluestem, 81 cents at Gold Coin and Club and 79 cents at Northern Spring.

Drivers were reminded that by state law they were now required to possess a driver’s license.

Merilla Hopkins was forced into a contested race for a Davenport school board seat against Brad Sweet after Lincoln County Superior Court Judge John Strohmaier ruled that the county made an “error” effectively disqualifying Hopkins from running for a vacant, separate seat.
